Frymburk

Frymburk is situated on a peninsula on the left bank of Lipno. This village never disappoints its visitors. Its exceptional location is breath-taking and the bird's eye view leaves no doubt that this is clearly the only place on the banks of the Lipno dam which literally juts out into the water. The dominant feature of Frymburk is the church tower, which cannot be overlooked from a great distance. If you sail across from  the ´South Bohemian Sea´ (Lipno), whether from the direction of Horní Planá or Lipno nad Vltavou, a unique panorama will emerge from behind the bay attracting many tourists.

Lovers of sacred places will have fun here too, as the beautiful church of St. Bartholomew (kostel Sv. Bartoloměje) with rectory is situated near the shore of the lake. On the main square, you must not miss the unique Plague Column, the artificial stream and the statue of the local writer Adalbert Stifter. For true experts or believers, we have a great tip for the Calvary Marta trip - a cross way to the Chapel of the Virgin Mary of Sorrows on the Na Martě hill.

Frymburk offers a lot of entertainment for those who love sports, whether they prefer summer or winter fun. Frymburk is a great place for all cyclists, hikers, fishermen but also swimmers. Frymburk has its own public beach and in the warm months of the year there is a ferry connecting the left bank, where Frymburk is located, with Frýdava on the right bank. This great water shortcut will satisfy especially those who want to take a trip to the nearby Vítkův Castle (Vítkův hrádek) and wish to avoid the longer route, which would take them around Lipno. And for those who prefer longer distances or long cycling trails, the most significant cycling route is the Bohemian Forest (Šumava) cycling trail leading from Vyšší Brod through Lipno nad Vltavou and along the left bank of Lipno to Nová Pec.

In winter, Frymburk is the ideal place for all beginner and young skiers – not far from here there is the ski slope Na Martě with a lift. For cross-country skiers, there is a panoramic track between Frymburk and Lipno nad Vltavou, leading to the Kramolín ski resort. When Lipno is covered with ice, the town takes care of the longest ice skating track in the Czech Republic leading from Lipno nad Vltavou to Horní Planá.

It is worth mentioning that 5 km northeast of the village there is the sports airport Frymburk. Also, the villages Blatná, Kovářov and Milná belong to Frymburk. In Milná you can also find glassworks.
